2nd brush with death….(2)

Not only did I have 1 brush with death, I had a 2nd & 3rd brush with death.

Back in August, 1982, I was 14 years old. I was very young and naive about many things. I had already had my “monthly visitor” for about 4 years. I knew how it worked, however I had no clue what I was about to go through wasn’t normal.  I was just about to enter my freshman year of high school, which isn’t horrifying enough, but I had been having my “monthly visitor ” for over 20 days, I didn’t realize that wasn’t normal, so I didn’t say anything. And it’s not like I got a long with my mom enough to even think of telling her.  My freshman year had started, it was awkward and I was dealing with the “never ending period”.   It seemed to get worse and worse with each passing day.  And I still never said anything. Until 1 day on my way to school, I was on day 31 with the never ending period.   I got off the bus and I had already bled through my doubled up pads and my pants.  I was mortified!! What was I going to do?  I went to talk to a teacher, she was the home economics teacher so she told me I should go get my physical education shorts on and she would wash & dry my pants for me.

By the time she washed and dried my pants, I was through my double layer pads and shorts.  She told me I had to tell my mom. (she also worked at the school) But I was too afraid to tell her.   My teacher went to go tell her. She came down to the classroom to see me, I was scared of her knowing and what was going to happen next.

She called the doctor; he said to come right in……….

Next post will be the visit to the doctor & hospital. coming August 8th.

Snack idea: mix 1 cup of peanuts, 1/2 sunflower kernels, 1/2 c raisins, and 1/4 c mini m&m’s.   Kids love it!  You can also add cashews, almonds, dried cranberries, or any other nut or dried fruit.
